Summer time is officially here and my patio needed a major refresh! With an in-ground pool in the back, we needed to make it functional for relaxing and entertaining. We wanted to make a cozy space that had multiple sitting areas and was functional for our pool. In the past we always had a hard time figuring out a flow in the back. Not to mention, the only way to get to the backyard was through the garage. It really didn’t work for our family at all!
Last year we installed a back door and back steps into the backyard. This was a game-changer! With having the pool in the back, walking through the garage was really tough for entertaining. When picking out the back door, I knew that I wanted black and I absolutely love how it turned out. (Swipe below to see the before and afters)
This year I wanted to keep things simple and timeless so everything is pretty much black and white. I added some hanging ferns to give the patio a pop of green but kept it really simple! And although my patio wont be complete until next month, I wanted to share our progress.
So heres what we have completed so far. we started by power washing the entire back patio. The winters really beat this concrete up and I cant believe how much life we breathed into this space after a little cleaning up! (Swipe to see before and afters)
Next, I wanted to try and use the majority of our existing furniture and just add new accessaries and decor to spruce the space up. We did order a new sectional and outdoor rug for our fireplace area, but that wont come in until July. I knew I wanted everything black and white with just some simple greens to add a bit of color. I wanted to make it timeless and cozy. I wanted a space to share a bottle of wine with the hubs at night, but also convenient and spacious for entertaining. We wanted a couple different spaces. One for lounging, a couple conversation spaces and of course, a space for outdoor dining.

We stained and sealed the back steps. We added throw pillows and soft lighting. Outdoor rugs and hanging ferns. This space still has quite a ways to go, but I am loving how our backyard oasis is finally coming together. We are still waiting on a sectional and new rug to come but this little transformation, makes me happy!
I’m looking forward to a summer full of memory making back here with friends and family. Making this space more of an extension of home, provides so much more living space in our otherwise smaller home and truly makes this my summertime oasis!
Much Love,
Shan
